A Guide to Reclaiming PPI

Recent media coverage over mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) has seen a number of people find they are entitled to make a claim for this – but how do you go about it?

PPI, or Payment Protection Insurance, was mis-sold to a number of people who either didn’t need the product or were not entitled to it. This means that these individuals could be entitled to receive a refund. In total, around 6.4million were found to have been mis-sold these policies from 2005 onwards, meaning that a large number of individuals could be entitled to make a claim.

How to Claim

For those who think they were mis-sold PPI making a claim is relatively easy and can be done by following these steps:

1) Review Your Situation

Unless you are going it alone to claim your refund, make sure that you speak to a professional firm like Brunel Franklin and investigate whether you are entitled to a claim or not. Review any loan agreements or other financial products which you took during the affected period and see if PPI was included with your policy. If it was then ask yourself whether you knew it was there or whether it was explained to you. If the answer to either of these questions is “no” then you could be entitled to a claim.

2) Visit a specialist like Brunel Franklin

Remember that it was the lenders who mis-sold the PPI in the first place and therefore they will not stand to benefit from PPI claims. This means that they might not offer you the fairest or highest payout, meaning that you could still stand to lose out. Talking to a specialist in claims management like Brunel Franklin can help you recieve a fair deal.

3) Be Thorough

Whilst it is important to act quickly, people should also ensure they are thorough when it comes to making their claim. Ensure that you are fully aware of what is involved and be confident in the decision that you are making. Remember that this problem was caused by misguided or limited information so don’t let these factors play a part in your future decisions either. Make sure you are aware of exactly what is involved and act in the manner which is best for your situation.

4) Get Your Refund

If you are entitled to a claim then remember that it was not your fault that you were mis-sold the product. It is therefore vital that you use the current opportunity to claim your refund and receive the payout which you deserve. Making a claim will not only financially reimburse you for a product you purchased without sufficient knowledge but will also send a clear message that this sort of treatment is not condoned. Your claim can therefore help to transform the industry, making future products of this nature more clearly defined and responsibly sold.

Sally Bowyer, Managing Director of leading financial claims firm Brunel Franklin, said that consumers could recoup many years’ worth of premiums plus interest. “If you were mis-sold PPI, you may be entitled to several years’ premiums plus 8% interest, which can in some cases amount to several thousands of pounds.”
